Heater off, house power suspected
A dryer that tumbles but stays cold and shows F4E4 is reporting Low or No Line Voltage. Whirlpool describes it as a possible fault in the home power supply that prevents the heater from switching on. Touching any pad clears the code and the estimated time remaining returns.
Checks, in the order given
Fuses and breakers. The dryer draws on two household fuses or breakers. Swap a blown fuse or reset a tripped breaker.
Cord. Check the installation against the Installation Instructions. The terminal screws at the dryer must be tight, and the dryer has to be unplugged before anyone inspects them.
Heated cycle. Select Timed Dry with heat and start the dryer again.
Why two breakers matter
An electric dryer needs its own 30-amp circuit, fused on both sides of the line.
One side runs the motor that turns the drum; the other runs the heating element.
A trip on either side can leave the dryer without heat.
The supply must be 240 volts. If it is not, a qualified electrician should look at it, and the same person is the contact if the message persists.
Laundry towers
For towers the listing gives the main heater as the potential cause. Cut power for one minute on the dryer and 5 minutes on the washer, and schedule service if the code is back.
Once the electrical checks are done and the dryer still will not heat, book a technician visit through (415) 687-4102. Our Whirlpool dryer repair page covers the Bay Area. Have the code, the model number and the results of your breaker check at hand.
Model compatibility: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so F4E4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
