Error codeF5E2
ApplianceWasher
Two different washers use the F5E2 label for a latch that will not engage, so start by identifying which one you have.
If the washer loads from the front
The display reports that the door is not locking properly.
Swing the door open and push it shut with some force. A door can seem closed while the latch has not caught.
Look at the door opening for anything poking out. Take some items out so the laundry has space to tumble.
If the washer loads from the top
The alert says the washer is unable to engage the lid lock and that something may be obstructing the lid lock area.
Pick out any object sitting in that area.
Confirm no piece of clothing is caught in the way.
Resetting after the checks
With either design, shut off the breaker or pull the plug, leave the washer dead for five minutes, then bring power back and watch whether F5E2 returns.
F5E4: front load washers that ran three cycles back to back without the door opening.
F6E2: a top load control-side alert, a different matter from the lid lock.
Washer service for F5E2 in San Francisco
If the latch still refuses to catch after you cleared the door or lid area, a technician visit is the next step for your Whirlpool washer; see Whirlpool washer repair or call (415) 687-4102. Tell us if the machine is front or top loading, plus the model number and what you cleared.
Model compatibility: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so F5E2 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
F5E2 means a front load washer door is not locking properly, or a top load washer cannot engage its lid lock because of a possible obstruction.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
