Error codeF31
ApplianceDryer
Whirlpool commercial-grade residential dryers use F31 for their L2 error, short for Low or No Line Voltage. The house supply may be at fault, leaving the heater unable to turn on.
Fuses and breakers
Check whether a household fuse has blown or a circuit breaker tripped. Electric dryers draw on two. Swap in new dryer fuses, or flip the dryer’s household breaker off for one minute and back on to reset it.
Cord and retest
The cord has to be seated and installed correctly; the dryer’s Installation Instructions explain how.
Run a time dry cycle.
Watch for a minute and see that F31 stays off the display.
If F31 stays after the fuse and cord checks, San Francisco owners can reach us on (415) 687-4102 for Whirlpool dryer repair. Let us know the model number and which checks you made.
Model compatibility: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so F31 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
