Whirlpool Washer F8E1 Lo FL Error Code

VERIFIED

Error code F8E1 / Lo FL
Appliance Washer

Three kinds of Whirlpool washer use this code: the washer half of a laundry tower, front loaders and top loaders. A front loader may write it as Lo FL instead of F8 E1. In every case the control is reporting that the volume of water entering the tub does not look right.

Start at the faucets and hoses

Most of the owner checks concern the supply side. Go through them one at a time:

  1. Turn both the hot and the cold valve all the way open, with a hose attached to each.
  2. Follow each hose and straighten any kink, because a bent hose limits flow.
  3. Match the colours: the red hose belongs on the red (hot) valve and the blue hose on the blue (cold) valve.
  4. If the washer is plumbed through an anti-flood device, connect it straight to the water supply instead, since such devices can reduce both pressure and volume.

Clean the inlet screens

Mineral deposits or grit can plug the small screens where the hoses meet the washer. Shut off the water, detach the hoses and look at each screen; clean it or replace it as needed. For top loaders the guidance adds a way to do it without taking the screens out: aim the hose ends into a bucket, then scrub a clogged screen with a brush, mild soap and water.

Test a hose and look at the drain hose

To find out whether a supply hose is the weak point, remove it and let water run through it into a sink. A restricted stream means the hose should be replaced. Then turn to the drain hose. It should reach more than 4.5″ (113 mm) down into the drainpipe, shaped with the U-shape hose form, and it must not be sealed into the pipe with tape.

When the door is locked and the buttons do nothing

This code can leave the door locked and the control silent. Press the power button and the washer begins a drain routine that lasts about 8 to 10 minutes, with the pump running the whole time. Nothing you press is accepted until it ends, so give it a full 10 minutes before attempting anything else.

Power the washer down

Leave the machine disconnected for 5 minutes, then reconnect it and try again. If F8E1 or Lo FL is still displayed, the next step is a technician visit.

Neighbouring washer codes

  • F8E2: a dispenser code on the same family of washers.
  • F8E3: overflow or suds instead of low water.
  • F8E5: hot and cold supply lines on the wrong inlets.

Plain language

What this code means

F8E1, shown as Lo FL on front loaders, means the control senses the wrong volume of water coming into the washer.
