Whirlpool WMH32519HZ Over-the-Range Microwave Repair in San Francisco

A microwave mounted over the range does two jobs, cooking and venting, and either one can fail on its own.

About this model

Model overview

The WMH32519HZ is listed in our library as an over-the-range steam microwave of 1.9 cu ft, 30 inches wide. Because it hangs above the cooktop, it works as a microwave, a vent and a light at once. In a narrow San Francisco galley kitchen that is a lot to ask of one box, and heat and grease from the range below take their toll.

Start with the symptom

  • The display lights and the fan runs, but food stays cold.
  • Keypad presses do nothing, or the control beeps and stops.
  • The vent fan is weak, noisy or will not start.
  • The cooktop light is out although the bulb looks fine.
  • A steam or sensor cycle ends early with a message.

Why steam and sensor cycles matter

Our library describes this one as a steam model, which suggests humidity and temperature sensing is part of how it cooks. When those inputs misbehave, the cycle may stop early. Codes F3H and F3H1 point to the humidity thermistor or sensor and their wiring, and F8E5 refers to the exhaust air temperature sensor.

Other codes to know

E03 and F2 both describe a possible problem with the keypad or its wiring. F2H1 points to the vent fan and light switch on the lower left front side panel, or its wiring. F7E9 says that if the microwave is blocked by trim, cabinetry or something else, it could overheat. FCE1 says the appliance could not connect to the router. These are possibilities to confirm on the bench of the diagnosis, not conclusions.

Installation notes for an over-the-range unit

The mounting height, the spacing from the cooktop and the way the exhaust is routed all affect how the microwave behaves. Some kitchens vent outside through the wall or roof, others recirculate. A blocked duct, a crushed transition or crowded cabinetry around the top can trap heat and trigger an overheat message. A grease-clogged filter does the same job on a smaller scale.

Owner checks

  1. Confirm the outlet is live and the breaker or GFCI has not tripped.
  2. Close the door firmly and wipe the latch area and seals.
  3. Take out the grease filters and wash them so air can pass.
  4. Make sure nothing sits on top of the unit or blocks the vents.
  5. Do one controlled power reset by unplugging for a short time or using the breaker, then check whether the code comes back.

Do not open the cabinet, touch the high-voltage area or run the microwave empty. If you smell burning, turn the power off.
