A 36-inch electric cooktop with triple radiant elements, installed in a counter cutout.
The WCE97US6KS is listed as an electric 36-inch cooktop with triple radiant elements. A cooktop is dropped into a counter cutout, which means its supply and ventilation depend on the cabinet below as much as on the unit itself.
A glass surface with radiant elements fails in familiar ways: one element stays cold, one glows weakly, the surface shuts off during use, or the touch controls ignore you. For the first, see Whirlpool glass cooktop element not heating. If the whole surface is dead, the supply or the control is the starting point.
An overheat shutdown appears as C81 or C83; our library says the cooktop has overheated, and C82 that the cooking area overheated and the automatic shutoff was activated. F2 reports the surface cooking area is too hot and clears when it cools. Controller concerns such as F1E7 point to the cooktop control or wiring.
Let the surface cool, wipe it dry, check the breaker and try one power reset. Move cookware off the surface and note which element is affected. Never lift the cooktop or remove it from the cutout. Cracked glass means switching off at the breaker and stopping use.
See Whirlpool cooktops and request Whirlpool cooktop repair. Diagnosis comes first; a written estimate follows, and nothing is repaired without approval.
Clear the counter around the unit and remove any items from the cabinet beneath it. Note which element misbehaves and when the problem began. A technician diagnoses the supply, element and control, then gives a written estimate. Repairs start only when you approve.
Use flat-bottomed cookware that sits fully on the element, wipe sugary spills at once while the glass is cool, and avoid sliding heavy pots across the surface. A technician can often tell from the way a mark or crack looks whether the problem began with use or with the unit itself.
It is how the series entry describes the elements. A technician identifies which one is failing.
An overheat condition may be triggering a shutoff. See the overheat codes.
Cracks need inspection. Stop use and request a visit.
If nothing smells or sparks, yes, but report the fault.
Usually on the underside of the cooktop or the cutout, where a technician can find it.
