Whirlpool WML75011HZ Low-Profile Microwave Repair in San Francisco

A low-profile microwave fits tight spaces over the range, and tight spaces make heat and grease the usual suspects.

About this model

Model overview

The WML75011HZ is listed in our library as an over-the-range low-profile microwave of 1.1 cu ft, 30 inches wide. The low-profile shape suits shallow cabinets and the tall, thin kitchens common in San Francisco Victorians and condo conversions, where a standard microwave would crowd the cooktop.

Everyday faults

  • The light and display work, yet the food comes out lukewarm.
  • The turntable stops, wobbles or grinds.
  • The keypad is unresponsive in places.
  • The fan is weak and steam lingers over the stove.
  • The microwave shuts down mid-cycle and the display shows a code.

Turntable and door

A turntable that will not turn is often a simple mechanical issue: a displaced roller ring, a cracked glass tray or debris in the track. Lift out the tray and ring, wipe them, and put them back correctly. Our article on a microwave turntable not turning goes through this. A door that does not close fully can stop the microwave from starting at all, so check the latch area for food residue.

Codes in the library

Several microwave codes involve the control and its sensors. E21 and E22 describe a possible problem with the thermal sensor, the appliance control board or the wiring. F3T3 refers to the hood temperature thermistor, and F3T4 to the magnetron temperature thermistor. F2Q1 refers to the touchpad. Each says only that there may be a problem, so confirmation comes from testing.

Over-the-range installation

This type of microwave is secured to the wall and the cabinet above, with the exhaust either ducted outside or recirculated. A kinked duct transition, a missing damper or a pan of simmering grease below can raise the temperature in the hood area. When we visit we look at clearances, the filter condition and the way the microwave is plugged in, since a cord that has been stretched or crowded behind the unit can fail.

Safe owner checks

  1. Check the outlet, breaker or GFCI.
  2. Clean the turntable ring and tray, and replace them properly.
  3. Wash the grease filters and clear the vents.
  4. Close the door firmly after wiping the seal.
  5. Do one controlled power reset by unplugging briefly or using the breaker.

Never remove the outer case. If you see sparks or smell burning, cut the power.
